POSITION TITLE: Market Building Events Manager

REPORTS TO:  Market Building Foundation Executive Director

The Market Building (MB) Events Manager has the responsibility of booking, operating, and promoting Charter Hall and building-wide events in the City Market Building. A successful Manager will be an extremely organized, spirited, energetic, confident, dynamic, and enterprising advocate of the City Market Building and Downtown Roanoke. The Events Manager will proactively coordinate with Downtown Roanoke, Inc., the City of Roanoke, the Regional Partnership, the Roanoke Regional Chamber of Commerce, Visit Virginia’s Blue Ridge, and others in promoting Charter Hall as the premier event space in Downtown Roanoke.  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES

  1. Work to expand on our event successes for the benefit of the Market Building Foundation
  2. Work to promote rental and use of Charter Hall and MB common areas
  3. Spearhead the development and implementation of the Charter Hall marketing plan
  4. Facilitate use of tenant food services for events in the building
  5. Plan and supervise events while coordinating with renters, vendors, and event planners, manage lighting systems and audio visual needs (Includes nights and weekends during events and tours)
  6. Coordinate with and assist the Executive Director with the management of contractors repairing or maintaining the space(s)
  7. Assist in the preparation of an annual budget
  8. Code, for payment, all event related bills
  9. Maintain event files and documents in an organized and responsible way
  10. Attend local industry events for the promotion of Charter Hall
  11. Other tasks as assigned

PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS

  1. Has built and maintained a strong relationship with Foundation Board and Executive Director
  2. Has successfully managed the promotion and lease of Charter Hall
  3. Has increased revenue through activation of Charter Hall and other useable spaces at the MB
  4. Provides clear, accurate, well documented and on-time communications
  5. Has met budget projections or has promptly identified issues related to the budget
  6. Has assisted in positioning the market building as an anchor and activity generator in Downtown Roanoke

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: Minimum – College or Community College Graduate with an Associate Degree or greater.

KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of basic office tools and software including MS Office. Experience with marketing, program development, event planning, and audio visual and lighting related event needs.

EXPERIENCE: Two years related experience is ideal but not required.

SKILLS/ABILITIES: Demonstrated marketing skills. Excellent written and oral communication skills.  The right fit will have exceptional people skills and be able to work under pressure with a smile. 

Attention to detail and accuracy. Basic fiscal management skills. Well organized. Creative. Cooperative and willing to assist others.
