Eating Green for a Saint

St. Patty’s Day is still a full week away but in Roanoke we’re celebrating with a huge parade this Saturday (and a whole bunch of other events). If you’re coming downtown to celebrate there are certainly a lot of options for food and beverage but the City Market Building takes the (unofficial) title of the best place to find more green food and beverage than you can handle.

Beverages
For a lot of people it starts and ends with green beer. Wall Street Tavern and Fork in the Market will have their fair share of the not-so-Irish liquid. If you never touch the green stuff both restaurants are offering Irish Car Bombs. Wall Street Tavern is featuring O’Connor Irish Stout. Fork in the Market has Guinness on draft and Tullamore Dew Irish Whiskey.

Food
Sure there’s the usual corned beef sandwiches, which will be served in large quantities at Wall Street Tavern, but let’s step out of the comfort zone together. Doner Kebab has Irish Hummus from now until the actual St. Patty’s Day. It’s made up of Parsley, jalapenos, garlic, and some food coloring and it’s a super tasty dish.

When you’re done with lunch or dinner stop by Bayou Snowballs for a key lime or spearmint snowball or mint chocolate chip ice cream. Of course if you want to eat in normal colors you can enjoy Hong Kong Restaurant, Gyro in the Market, Der Frankfurter Bistro, or Scrambled. So, if you’re looking for a quick place to eat this Saturday stop by and see us at the City Market Building. We’ll have some great free holiday wearables at the center of the building (while they last) and all the great food you can eat from Roanoke’s most unique food court.
